When their barangay is sacked, Tala is captured, and Balos vows vengeance on Alagad, the warrior who led the attack. Tala is taken to the Red City, home to an ancient order of mages. There, she embarks on the path to becoming a powerful mage under the tutelage of a legendary illusionist, while grappling with her growing affection for Alagad, the very man who stole her from her home.

Meanwhile, Balos falls in with a ruthless band of bounty hunters and, with each bounty, inches closer to enacting his vengeance and reuniting with his childhood friend. Their inevitable reunion forces impossible choices between ambition, desire, and loyalty.
